The newest addition to the family and full on time waster.

So much time, so little to drink!

Or should that be so much to drink and so little time?

Another fabulous afternoon of sampling, today was wines followed by a port and a cognac. I didn't mind the Cognac, the port I could have left as I could have done with most of the white wines. We only tried two reds and only one of them was remotely drinkable. At least I think so.

After all that excitement we had to practice opening wine bottles with the Waiter's Friend. Fool of a thing! is all I shall say on that experience.

This was followed by what was supposed to be non-dairy based mocktails. Inevitably some booze ended up in some of the drinks. Surprise surprise!
While they were few and far between, the non-alcoholic ones that were made mostly seemed to end up down the sink, I'm not talking about the remains of a drink here - were talking nearly full glasses.
I suspect it had a lot to do with people were just making stuff up, I don't think anyone really thought out what they were doing. And as for the Midori and cranberry juuice concoction, I wasn't surprised it ended up down the sink.

I made a good old stand-by the Cinderella Mocktail after flipping through the recipes supplied and not seeing it or anything like it I figured I might be able to pull some credit for something that might be "original"!

But instead of mixing the first ingredients and topping with lemonade I decided to go down the built road. I picked a hurricane glass, my personal fave glass. Added some ice, poured some pineapple juice over it, added some orange juice slightly less than the pine and then what was meant to be a dash of grenadine become more like three and promptly sank to the bottom of the glass - I wasn't expecting that! But it did as it settled make a real cool kind of "blush" at the bottom of the glass. I topped it up with lemonade which made this cool clear layer at the top and the juices sort of intermingled in the middle to make a yellow-orange colour.
Compleatly by accident I ended up with something absolutly fabulous darling!

While out doing some last minute shopping this morning I picked up the latest Simply Knitting and the new Yarn magazine.
I bought Creative Knitting the other day and I am a little annoyed it was wrapped in plastic because I couldn't see what was in it before I bought but having looked at it since it's better than last month's which I didn't buy at all.
Back to SK and Yarn, I was hoping to read them tonight after I got in from class but it looks as though my mother failed to drop them in with the rest of my shopping.

All good things come to those who wait I suppose, at least I have the newsletter from Janet Evanovich to peruse tonight, not quite as exciting or as much reading...

Until next time,
KNIT ON!

Welcome to RSG!

RSG for those of you not familiar is Responsible Service of Gambling something similar to RSA but still a whole different set of rules.

That's what I had the priveledge of doing tonight, I nearly didn't get there as I was going to trail back down all the stairs to see if I had perhaps ended up in the wrong place (which I hadn't but more on that later).

I couldn't see anybody from my class, it looked to be a whole different class so I had a minor crisis, only minor. And while starting back down the stairs I met some of my class who were all headed up so I followed back up - if I am going to barge into the worng class I'd rather not do it alone. Safety in numbers and all that jazz.
I can only presume for some reason best known to the powers to be that they would combine 2 (possibly 3?) classes together for this. The end result was total choas!

It wasn't a boring subject as I had first thought and turned out to be rather interesting but it was very hard to concentrate, most of them clearly thought this was some kind of social occasion and talked, rattled papers and generally fidgeted.

Edit: There was more here about knitting, but the daft white cat has struck again and is about to be struck!

It is, after all, Christmas I suppose....

You Are Vixen

Sexy and sultry, you're the one all the other reindeer dream about.

Why You're Naughty: That fur pulling spat you got into with Dancer over Santa.

Why You're Nice: Because even when you're nice, you're still delightfully naughty!

Day Three Bar Wenching - all is not as it seems!

I am very disappointed to report Bar Wenching is not all I hoped for.

It does I agree Cindy, imply an olde worlde, bawdy songs and those huge tankards!

I suspect under the current laws governening Responsible Service of Alcohol, Food Hygeine and OH & S I'm not gonna find it - locally anyway.
Day Three has seen us trudge up many stairs and through much theory and paperwork. Another words in theory and with Monoply money I can serve customers, handle cash and work out bassic Foreign Exchange transactions.

But this afternoon we started to move into the world of the practical with how you set up a bar and a demonstration of the various methods of cocktail making such as build, layer, muddle, shake and stir. Although after we do Responsible Serving of Alcohol we find out the legalities behind the layered drinks. Can you or can't you? That is the question!

Did anybody else watch Grumpy Old Women on Christmas on Monday night? I know my father did and he was disappointed because it wasn't as funny as the Grumpy Old Men at Christmas. Which I have to agree with him about, but it was very true in otherways or at least I thought so. I am however disappointed that the GOW didn't seem to have as much of an aversion to Xmas cards as the GOM did. I absolutley loathe the wretched things.

I must dash my dear readers and see if I can put to use some of my ill bought liquer choices - these are not so much as declasse but criminally insane. Consequentially I have a big collection and not all of it will mix - well I could mix it but......I'm sure you understand.

Until next time,
Suzi.

Christmas is coming!

I absolutley hate Christmas!

This may come as a surprise to those who know me and my obsession for all things Christmas (I secured more Christmas movies the other day!)

Mostly my obsession stems from for Christmas in the vain hope that I will actually get a cool present, something I actually asked for as opposed to those things people think you will like. Soemtimes I wonder just who they were buying for.

My Christmas request if Santa is reading goes something like this:
1. Black clothing - plain black with no print or patterns preferably! Trying to buy plain black skirts is a nightmare!
2. You shouldn't judge a book by it's cover - so I'm going to watch the DVD (hopefully) and pass judgement. Here's my pick!
3. A Christmas alone! Contrary to popular myth this is not a bad a thing. Some of us just have no patience for all the crap associated with sitting round and making polite conversation with people we see once a year. Especially when I haven't done anything different to last year, had I, they all would have heard about it a lot sooner.
4. The RIGHT to say Bah Humbug! Why must we all like Christmas? Having just read The Secret Life of Santa Claus by Jackie French I think the Feast of Saturnalia is a lot more fun. It's all about eating, drinking and orgy's which is far more interesting than church services and other people's children.
5. If I had a dollar for all the Merry Christmas! I keep hearing I would buy my own private island and ban Christmas!

Bah humbug till next time,
Suzi Scrooge.

New! New! New!

I got an e-mail in my InBox last week, letting me know the new MagKnits was up. However while I have noticed my button for Knitty has updated I still haven't had the e-mail telling me it's updated? Where is it?

I also see the Yarn magazine print issue is out! Has anyone got a copy yet? I am going to start haunting newsagents from tomorrow.

Greetings and Salutations!

Did anybody else indulge in a fun filled Christmas extravaganza tonight?

I am of course referring to the Myth Busters Christmas Special and Grumpy Old Men on Christmas. The last one I missed the end of due to my Mother ringing me up. But my father apparently was taping it so I hope to catch a replay.

I am very thrilled having seen the Grumpy Old Men I am not the only one who dosen't like Christmas. I look forward to the Grumpy Old Women on Christmas, I could do a whole episode on that. A Grumpy Old Woman on Christmas.

But on more exciting news and it kinda has to do with Christmas, by Christmas with any luck I will be a fully qualified bar wench complete with the much talked about Responsible Serving of Alcohol certification.
Hmmm, me responsibly serve alcohol? Well I do when it's mine, but that's only beacuse I'm not big on sharing. The more they drink the less there is for me!

While this decison hasn't gone down well at work, well it's not real work it has made my Job Enforcer happy. It's made me slightly happy and also slightly guilty. Bailing on work at Christmas, but I'm going to get behind a bar! How cool is that?

There is a new additiion to the family, it's only a matter of time till this new addition comes to live with me having been catnapped, Ash is quite happy to get into my handbag - all by himself I might add. I'm just biding my time.

I hope to have a pictur of the former ankle biter soon - my ankles no longer pose any interest but they do however still bear the scars. Clearly adaft white cat in the making....

Until next time,
Suzi.

Yeah baby!

Now that's more like it, after discovering a pattern for a cotton bag that is knitted as opposed to the usual crocheted, and finally discovering the pattern for the knitted tree house (complete with instructions to make your own giant needles needed to knit it). What could top it?

Well thanks to Katie (who's blog my long term readers will be familair with in my list of frequently read blogs or it was until Blogger informed me it couldn't take me there because it didn't exist - damn Blogger! I'm sorry Katie but I thought you must have quit but I have re-bookmarked you!), on to the point, Katie directed me to this site - The AntiCraft!

Thankyou Katie I love it! And you were right the armwarmers were just my thing, a snowflake that morphs into a skull! the first issue is titled Your Going To Die Anyway You May As Well Knit and featured a very cool cover picture. And the patterns! This my dear readers is what Knitting on the Darkside is all about!

I noticed a project for knitting with wire - I love this idea althouh I suspect I would make a mess of it as I doubt wire is as forgiving as yarn. Actually speaking of knitting with wire, the last Saimply Knitting magazine had an article on it and alos in wither Better Homes and Gardens or Notebook there was a Lincraft Christmas special and they had knitted wire napkin rings. Hmmm, becoming less obscure all ready?

And onto other things beocming less obscure, after seeing the recent adverts for the tv show Celebrity Overhaul I decided to give tonight's episode a watch. Because they had a segment on pole dancing! Unfortunatly a bit of research shows that still, still the closest classes are in Melbourne. How disappointing!

But all is not lost my dear readers! My research has shown that there is a company in Queensland who with this latest boom manufacture poles - and they are portable! Yes, my dear readers, have pole and will travel.
The Pussycat Poles produce a full range from Basic to Deluxe (it spins) and they are all removeable so you can take them down when not in use, although some of them are semi-removeable which menas they have a lock that bolts into your ceiling. Who would have thought they could be so complex?

No, my dear readers you can't just buy a pole, you have to make decisions about your pole! As well as a phyisical workout once you've bought your pole you get a mental workout before! (Actually you could get one after if you have the semi-removable and you need to explain your new ceiling fixture, yes it's a ??????)

In conclusion my dear readers I have one last question for you - DO I MAKE YOU HORNY BABY? DO I?

Until next time,
Suzi.

In the velvet darkness of the blackest night......

Was anyone else excited at Barry Bostwick starring in an episode of Cold Case based around the Rocky Horror Picture Show?

I LOVE Rocky Horror! LOOOOOVVVVVVEEEE IT!!!!! So I was very very very excited.
And also a little disappointed, why dosen't our cinema screen it? During the year there are times where there is some utter rubbish on.
I know because I've seen it.

I finally picked up the needles and worked on one of my long lost and then found projects - the Hooded Scarf with Pockets out of Cleckheaton Angora Supreme. It's now a few rows longer.

I think all this wet weather has had a pleasent effect on me, it's very soothing for a knitters soul.
It's also put me in the mood for soup. Pumpkin soup! After tinned tomato soup (must be Rosella), homemade pumpkin soup is my fave food out.

And in answer to the querys about the apprentice Terminators, some of the young ones wern't bad at all. Not bad at all......

In closing today I have for you all a magical knitting link!

Until next time,
Suzi.

Flotsam and Jetsam

We had our SNB meet-up on Tuesday, I didn't get alot of knitting done. SInce I've finished my camo scarf which I whipped up in no time, everything else has fallen by the wayside. None of it excites me enough to pick it up and finish it.

However I would give in to temptation and start something new, if I could decide what I wanted to knit.

My sister has finished her cat bed (Princess Snowball from the first SNB book). I'm thinking about making one for the Daft White Cat who is not bothered by thunder storms and sleeps on. But he is very taken with his "nest", this is a pile of shredded newspaper that came in a parcel I received. After tipping it out to fosick through it the DWC came to play in it and later took to sleeping in it. I haven't the heart to throw it away yet.

I watched the first episode of Billy Connolly's Word Tour of New Zealand last night. Last time it was on they had two episodes and advertised a third which never came on and nothing more was heard about it.

It's been some wild and wacky weather we've had here recently, but all this warmth is causing me to have feverishly wild ideas. Some time ago, one of my mum's friends relations was giving away her food dehydrator, unfortunatly the instructions to go with it were long gone. But none the less I snapped it up, actually this was earlier this year some time or maybe the middle? But another of my mother's friends has one - it may not even be the same brand let alone the same model but at some point we were going to get together with our dehydrators and have a lesson.

What made me think of this was mainly we're coming into the gorwing season and also because I've been meaning to make the Christmas pudding since August and the lady with the dehydrator is our pudding tie-upper as well.
Good thing she lives close to my mother!

Drying stuff and making the "leathers" can be done in low temp oven (suitable for all weather) or outside in the sun (although you need to be careful to watch out for bugs and marauding animals/children/MEN!* who are likely to hamper efforts).
(*These last are the worst pests of all, when growing anything they will interfere/overwater/dig up to no end and that first strawberry you are waiting forever to ripen so you can pick it - only to have it vanish!)

While on the topic of men and leathers, today at work we received some more Xmas puddings. Now two elderly ladies (I'll call them G and R) make them for us, after driving round the block twice uanble to get a parking space, R comes into the shop to tell me they are going to pull up out the back and unload.
Now just behind us the God Squad Motorcycle club has moved in and they must have had some event ontoday because there were heaps of them. So R and I are waiting at the back door for them to drive off so G can come down and unload. After the God Squad have roared off and I mean roared, G comes down with a box.

R says to her before this next lot go bring the car down to the door and we can unload and get out of the way.
Oh yes says G back to her and returns back to the car.
R who's watching her go starts laughing and turns and says to me, she's asked those fellows up there to carry the boxes in.

What followed was a mini procession of apprentice Terminators in black leather carrying boxes of puddings. So I suppose we can say today turned out not to bad after all. Mmmm hmmmm mmmm hmmm.....

Until next time,
Suzi.

Happy Halloween!

Yes, today is the day. And how unexcting it's turned out, I think because it's a Monday.

But in honour of the celebration I did party a little. This afternoon I went to see Doom. I wasn't sure what time it was on and popped round to the cinema after work to see what screenings were available and discovered one had started just before I got there. I became one of those late people I loathe, you know the ones who come creeping in after the movie's started and start scrambling for seats. Fortunatly the cinema was practically empty so I scored a seat at the back at the end of a row, realitively unoticed.

On the way home I was thinking about what I would write about it and the words "lacks substance" popped into my mind.
If your thinking about seeing it, wait for the video release.

As a huge fan of the game Doom and of the Rock I was hoping for good things, especially looking at the Resident Evil duo.

Doom failed to be creepy, the Rock was disappointing (not in his performance, more in his character). It was dimly lit and involved freaky things leaping out and attacking people and loads of big guns. But still I am not completly satisfied and this bothers me. As a huge fan of big guns-blowing stuff up genre, where did it go wrong?

On a side note anybody concerned about the Blood and Guts qouta, apart from a juicy autopsy it was pretty tame. Actually the autopsy is probably about the same as CSI, especially when they get one of their "decomposing" corpses.

I noticed posters for Tim Burton's Corpse Bride marked as Coming Soon, I can be optimistic. However I didn't see any adverts for Nightwatch which I keep seeing trailers for on SBS.

I'm off to check my fellow SNB'ers blogs and see what they are up to before tomorrow's meet-up. I am very excited!

Until next time,
Suzi.

All Hallows Eve

Another surprise! Slightly late for my birthday but still very exciting. Ages ago I entered a competion running through Farmers Union Iced Coffee and what arrived this week?

A Farmers Union Iced Coffee BBQ apron, I don't have a BBQ. But you know, I have the apron, maybe I can dress up and pretend. Here it is being modeled by the wonderful Sandra D.

Things that make you go Hmmmmmm!

You Are 60% Weird

You're so weird, you think you're *totally* normal. Right?
But you wig out even the biggest of circus freaks!

There may be some truth to this, I'll admit I may be a little odd, weird stuf fascinates me. In the grand scheme of things I don't perceive myself as one of the real weirdo's of the world. But clearly I would?

Thankyous and Requests

First off a big thankyou to one and all who wished me a happy birthday. I can't thank you enough. Special thankyou to the Labradors - you go girls!

And now for a request - Roberta from Kittens, Mittens and Knit Things asked about he Beer Bread recipe. Ask and you shall receive! It can be found here at the Inn.

And whiule your all there the What is it? is still open for suggestions and ideas! I know Sharon and Cindy have had their thinking caps on. Probably knitted them themselves too.

Now I'm off for a date with Batman....How can a girl resist a man in black rubber?

Today is my Birthday!

Exciting? I think not baby puppy.

I've been knitting some Filatra De Crosa's Super Soft in a camofalouge print into the scarf featured int he latest Simply Knitting. The chunky ribbed one with the split to thread your scarf through.

I've wanted to make a scarf like this since I saw it in Stitch N' Bitch: The Knitters Handbook. I have trouble even with my long scarves unwinding and slipping. Very vexing.

I did a fair amount of bakign yesterday, I made osme Cappacino Cupcakes which need to be iced and dusted with cocoa so they really look like cappacinos.

There was the CHerry loaf which was bad.....I will take a photo if possible and show you all what I mean. And then there was the Crostata, I might use a bit less lemon next time. ANd never use bought custard agian, it was too something.

Shoosh you! After being so good all this mroing the White Cat is now goign to play up, he keeps looking out the windows. Somebody's making a lot of noise outside. Clearly it's making him restless.

Until next time,
Suzi.

Surprise! Knitty is not up!

After receiving my e-mail from Knitty alerting me to the fact their new surprise patterns were up I rushed over.

But NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!! Knitty was DOWN! How could this be? I can only presume everybody else got their e-mail and rushed to see them!

And what do we have apart form some pumpkins in time for the Halloween season, a new awesome SKULL SCARF! And some other bits - that are not for the easily offended or faint of heart.

I had SnB knitting coven today, and was immense fun, Cindy and I learnt to make beaded stitch markers. Which was very cool! It's amazing how infectious craft can be, you start at one thing and learn a whole new thing.

Start at knitting and branch out into felting, crochet, beading.....where will it end? Will I ever become a bona fide craft diva? Stay tuned, to the same Darkside channel at the same Darkside hour and you can find out!

Until next time,
Suzi.
