What have I been up to?

Well I've finished a small child i.e toddler size scarf making that project 12 done! Only 8 more to go - how long has it taken me? Longer than I'd originally planned but I think I was underestimating the speed or should I say slow at which I knit.
Ah, well the MSF (or Doctors Without Borders) and The Wilderness Society have done well out of me. As well as some local charitys such as ST Vincent's De Paul and the CWA International Tsunami Fundraiser. Buying yarn from charity automatically cancels it out as I've already given money. Unfortunatly there's been a temporary lull in yarn donations to my local charity shops although I think it is picking up now. Around about this time of year a lot of cupboards get cleaned out.

I've been working on the sock since Friday night and today I've finally finished the ribbing. What took so long? Do you knit that slow? Yes I knit that slow and I'm on 2mm needles. Which I acquired in a bundle of needles I picked up off a market stall and they've been knocking about ever since. They are plastic so at first and still a little bit now it's like trying to knit with a couple of pieces of uncooked spaghetti. But now the rib is over I can move up to the 2.75mm which are metal. Yeah!

I was some time ago going to knit myself a Harry Potter scarf, well I am still going to knit it. Once the yarn diet is over I am going to buy enough wool and knit it up. I'll include the link for the original pattern I was going to use here but I will also include the new Lion Brand pattern for the HP scarfs. Lion Brand had this to say about their pattern "Scarves shown are designed to be made at moderate cost for costume use and casual wear. They are not exact replicas of those shown in the Harry Potter movies from Warner Bros., which use approximately 7 times as much yarn!"

Knitting aside - my other fave topic. No it's not chocolate. Or impractical shoes. Although I love both of those. It's Matt Hardy. The Man himself is launching his own reality internet show. Having seen the trailer for it I am intrigued, amused and left wondering about the spanking. Nobody panic! Everybody was fully clothed! I gather from what I can find out the lady giving the spanking was a daughter of one of Matt's father's friends who'd he'd met for just the first time that day.
They do live in rural North Carolina, maybe it's a local custom there to spank your host upon meeting them for the first time (or everytime?), if so I think I may have to pay a visit or move there they seem like my kind of people.
The kind who would appreciate fabulous but impractical shoes and sharp pointy sticks. I'm off to knit myself a magic carpet so as to fly my way there.

Cinderella Shall Go To The Ball!

In a pleasent surprise I discovered that Telstra have sent me a cheque for what I was in credit with them for. Very unexpected but very very pleasent. So I rang up the Silverdome and booked my Alice ticket. I was worried they might have sold out - the lady I spoke to told me she still had a couple hundred tickets she'd let me have - if only they had been free!

Now I've started panicking - now that I'm going what if they don't sell enough tickets and it's cancelled? To think I was freaking out because it was the only concert in Tasmania...but it may be another case entirely.

On the knitting front I am continuing to work on my hat in Caressa - have I told you about this hat? Hmm I'm not sure off hand but I finished the Drop Stitch Scarf on Monday. Project 10 done!!!!!!!

I'm Only Happy When It Rains!

I do love the rain, really really really love it! Yes I am in a far better mood than the other day, there are simply some days when there are bridges short of a troll.

I have finished project 9 on the yarn diet, it's a pair of Cressa gloves from Get Creative's Designer Knits. They are very cute little things also a little weird looking unless your actually wearing them...
But there will be pictures soon, alos of the hat to go with it. Once I get excited enough to cast on 81 stitches, I hate casting on. Loathe it with all my heart!

While knitting last night I started watching some late night movie, but the hthing about it that really grabbed my attention was one of the names listed at the start, Joanie Laurer. Unless your a wrestling fan the name will mean nothing to you, for example my sister. Joanie worked for the WWE under the name Chyna and I've often wondered what she did after she left. Well I shall wonder marginally less now!

But despite this I managed to achieve a minor plumbing feat, by myself, last night and now I have slightly cleaner water. Yes, I have figured out how to fit my on tap water filter. It was originally my mother's but my father couldn't follow the instructions and declared it was impossible, so it sat in its box waiting to be liberated.

Now that I have cleaner water, I am marginally less of a crank. Just marginally. I blame my crank moments on the weather, it's as good as excuse as any.

After this small but incredible achievement and working some more on my Drop Stitch Scarf today and thinking about how fortunate I am, I decided it's time I was less of an uncharitable bitch and more of a charitable one.
In this effort I will smile at people even if they aren't paying customers, even if they are one of these people who look at half the contents of the shop and not buy anything.

I will be grateful that I have clean water (or water at all), that I have a soon to be finished scarf to keep me warm and a job that means I have to smile at non-paying customers.
Wait a minute, maybe my new charitable resolve can wait another day or hundred days.....

Also I Can Kill You With My Brain

I know I wrote yesterday about what I like to go with my knitting, well I have found something else I would love to knit at.

Thanks to Karen over at Spinning Goth I've discovered this little gem, anyone up for a trip to Hollywood? It's Saturday night cinema at the Hollywood Forever Cemetry, and yes I had to follow the link to read about the cemetry itself. Does that make me weird? My dear readers who have been following my blog for some time probably figured out the answer to that question looooooooooong before I even considered asking it.
Back to the topic at hand, I quite enjoyed browsing the Cemetry's website and I now have a notion to Google for more to look at. Hmmm, the knitting may be neglected tonight.

On the knitting front, I am going to have to rummage through my stash and see what I have to knit a pair of slippers out of. My sister is currently knitting a pair - first one's done and I think she's started the second from the Guardian Angel pattern book. For those of you not near a Guardian Chemist the pattern is a Shepherd one and can be found at their website in the free patterns section.

I think that's it for today, anybody who's a fan of Joss Wheedon and his stuff (if your not familair with him he was the creator of Buffy the Vampire Slayer), I have just finsihed watching the Firefly series. Having seen it I remember catching the start of it a couple of times when it was on tv but it was late and I really had no idea what it was at the time. Firefly is set in outer space after we've all left the Earth and at times it's a bit wild west, kind of wild west meets outer space in the future. I enjoyed it, it was funny and dark. Like the early season's of Buffy before they got a little out there.

Ding Ding! Darkside Station everyone out!

I picked up the new Creative Knitting today, and I know it has at times got a bum wrap but I quite liked this issue. Another magazine with a new issue is Spun - their summer issue is out. Yes I know Summer they are based in the Northern Hemisphere.

I love the Rainbow Hot Pants! Very cool and also on the very cool list is another sari silk project I love getting more ideas for that stuff.
But what I really liked was the bag made out of plastic shopping bags, my sister accumlates enough to make multiples of these bags.

I love a good murder with my knitting and to suit the cold weather I am enduring I think it only apt that tonight's murder will be on Cold Case. But another murder to soon go with knitting is a murder mystery called Knit One, Kill Two by Maggie Sefton. Knitter's Review have a review up for it, can't wait till it washes up on our shores.

My highlight for tonight so far was answering the door to the pizza boy who told me that I had made a good choice because his favourite was Pepperoni Lovers as well. I am very excited, but I realise dear readers that your probably all off doing exciting things and leading that mysterious thing called a life while I am rapt about ordering the pizza boy's fave topping. It's the little things that count, now if only Matt Hardy would deliver himself to my door......

The Naughty Knitter Slinks Back!

Yes, it's been a while and I've been very remiss with my blogging. But I have been workign very hard on my Drop Stitch Scarf and planning what I will make out of the Guardian Angel booklet this year.

I saw Cathy on Thursday and she already had her pin, I wonder if I'll make something in time this year? I missed out last year as they hadn't expected so many knitters to donate. Which is good in a way.

Matt Hardy is drving me to distraction, but when is he not? At least I've managed to accomplish some knitting around it.

Last year at the CWA Craft Camp I attended I did a class in Felting. I bought this months Better Homes and Gardens because they had knit throws again - they've also included some crochet this year. Immediatly after the knit throws section is an article on felting, it's the hot trend this winter and here I thought it was crochet.

This isn't the knit and full technique. This is where you felt actual fleece, I won't say my effort last year was the world's greatest but I think I know enough of what I did wrong to get it right this time around. Starting with a Coffee Plunger Cosy - I've been looking for one of those!

Get Your Freak On A Knit Leash!

Well I'm back - I have been away from you but you can all blame Matt Hardy. He's been causing me to be distracted from important things like knitting, and writing about knitting on my blog.

But I'm back, and I have to tell you all about my new project I started last night. I got my Stress Relief Scarf out to work on it and I had real problems with my yarn overs when I first started and I hadn't done very much so I decided to rip it back and start again. This created an even worse disaster, I don't know what I did exactly but I ended up with only 12 stitches from 35 after about 10 rows.
I ripped it back once again, used some very rude words, and had to retrieve the daft white cat as he had shut himself in the bathroom for the seventh time that night. Instead of restarting the SRS, I choose instead to start the Easy Lace Scarf from last month's Get Creative. It's a drop-stitch scarf and I have been dying to make one ever since my sister made one out of some very nice mohair.

I started fiddling with the SRS about eight, by eight thirty I had started the DSS and two hours later my DSS was about the length of a DVD case. Not bad for two hours work I suppose, it's in Zhivago in the colour of Pewter. It's knitting up wonderfully and I think it may get finished some time soon.

The last time I wrote, it was movie night. Lemony Snickets turned out to be not as funny as I thought it would be. It did have Jim Carrey and Billy Connolly in it. Bit of a disappointment.
Resident Evil:Apocolypse, now this I thought would be a bit of harmless trash and had Milla Jovovich in it. I actually really enjoyed it. But then again it did have guns, explosions, zombies, evil corporations and Milla in it. I am after all an Action junkie. But it's got me thinking, how many female action stars are there? I'd say Milla is an action star, but all of the other action stars names that pop into my head are all male.
Can anybody else name any other female action stars?

I'm afraid that's it for today, I might get back to my scarf. Get it a little bit closer to finished. I've come to the conclusion that, with all my scarves, I really need to get a co-ordinating hat or hats!

Proof of Life.

It is very cold, and just to prove I'm still alive - and am not sitting frozen into a human icy pole clutching knitting needles between frost bitten fingers - here is my post!

The only thing knitting related I have done is work on the Faux Fur scarf. Which incidently is knitted on 4.5mm needles, I am hoping in a deluisional way of finishing it soon and using the needles to finish the Angora Supreme without then having to purchase more 4.5mm. Genius! Or maybe the cold is getting to me.

I cruised the video store today, not a copy of Blade: Trinity or elektra could be had. But I managed however to snag one of the last copies of the Lemony Snickets movie off the shelf and I also got Resident Evil: The Apocolypse. I haven't seen the first RE but thought about renting it when it first came out. My main motivator today was because it had Milla Johvich - who was the the Fifth Element in the movie The Fifth Element. I do love that movie and Milla is a very cool chick.
Tonight is movie veiwing night and to go with it I have Hot Chocolate and Pepperment Areo block, yep a whole block. You got bonus Fly Buys if you bought a block of Nestle chocolate with your packet of Hot Chocolate.

The Naughty Knitter is in Charge but not as Large.

Yes, I'm still admiring my ever diminishing butt. It really is very fabulous.

I'm sorry to report that it's too cold to knit, well that's my excuse anyway. I haven't got any closer to doign anything. It might be possible I hate everything I have.
Again.

I got my Guardian Pharmacy catalog in my letterbox yesterday and it had the advert for the Guardian Angel program starting the first of June. I will have to get organised and get in early this year. I missed out on my badge last year as they had run out by the time I got my item in. Yes, just one. But at lest I made something for that much I can be proud.

I know there has been some discussion at SNB about our Dulaan effort - I must organise to get it packaged ready to send off. It's been amazing how many people have donated to it.
I'd like to thank Cathy, Sharon, Margaret, Sandra, Linda (and friend), Joyce and myself of course! I'm sure all our hard work will be well appreciated.

Cindy I never thought of asking a newsagent about ordering the magazines - there are at least three in close proximity to my work in town and I'm out at the K-Mart at least once a fortnight if not twice. My quest for knitting magazines may be over. They was quite a choice in most newsagents now I'm lucky to find one that stocks anything other that Creative Knitting and Jo Sharp's Contemporary Knitting Issues.

The Naughty Knitter Strikes Back!

I know I have been a very naughty knitter, very very naughty. I haven't knitted since? Hmmm quite some time, I haven't eaten chocolate either and my new Matt which was his last PPV was crap as I remembered so it isn't really a good new Matt....

I found in my Inbox today a e-mail to tell me that the NEW Knitty Surprises are up, I do like the doll outfits they are very cute!

I am thinking about knitting the following projects are being contemplated for completion.
1. Alien Illusion Scarf - I need to buy more yarn!
2. Italian Hooded Scarf - I need to buy more yarn for this one too!
3. Angora Supreme Hooded Scarf with Pockets - I need to buy new needles I broke one.
4. Faux Fur hooded Scarf - just needs to be picked up and worked on. Hmmmmmm.
5. The other Gauntlet from Vogue's first issue of Knit 1. Cindy I don't know if I've thanked you yet for telling me about the Kings Meadows Newsagent yet - but thankyou! I will have to get out and have a look at it.

I rented the second half of seasons 2 and 3 of Buffy from the video store yesterday. I owned Season 1, I got the first half of season 2 for Christmas. Then I trailed all over town trying to buy the second half of season 2. I ended up buying the first half of season 3. It was half the price of the second half od season 2.
I do love my Buffy. I think I'm a Willow, I'd LOVE to be Faith but I'd happily settle for beng Buffy.

I went to the gym yesterday, I also went Saturday but I got there half an hour before closing so you know....But it's already starting to pay off. My butt is starting to look fantastic - maybe I should make a knit skirt? Or learn to crochet and crochet one. I think the pattern book is called Artrageous Crochet and it has this very cool Flamenco Skirt in it. I like it lots.

Speaking of crochet, I notice Spotlight are now giving away crochet pattern leaflets with yarn purchases. Is this a sign of things to come? I know Debbie Stoller who wrote Stitch N' Bitch and Stitch N' Bitch Nation has currently in the works a book on crochet. Knitting was the new yoga perhaps crochet is the new knitting?

I have been a bit slack in my update of my blog, and I know I haven't replied to some people's comments.

So to start with, Cathy - the pussy cat in question is Angel she is almost if not already there (hmm?) 10.

Speaking of knit mags, has anybody seen the new Vogue Knit 1 out anywhere? Or another new knit thing the second SNB book - Stitch N' Bitch Nation?

Also I was wondering do you stuff your own shirts?

I bought new Matt Hardy today - which is exciting but sad because it was his last PPV before he got fired. I promise now I have new Matt, to be marginally less cranky, knit more and just maybe not make as many edible homages to certain parts of the male anatomy. Just maybe.

How much of a nanna?

I think it's all becoming a bit to nannerish for my own good, knitting is one thing, but I think I'm becoming a nanna. I bought the latest (or latest I've seen) Interweave knits and mainly because I liked the Bear Claw Blanket and Amsih Oval Rug.

There very Nannerish, maybe if I change the colours? I was watching Tom Jones with the Invalid (my mother) last night, I don't think changing the colours will help me.

Speaking of the Invalid (my mother), she was goign to a function with a friend tommorrow morning but because of her operation decided not to go, but she thought I could go instead. My mother thinks I need something presentable to wear, so I said I'd buy a new skirt - I could always do with another black skirt. So I buy the skirt today, and then relise that even my more presentable tops are going to look less than briliant in comparsion. I couldn't find a nice top, so I bought a knit jacket/cardy thing. I thought I could wear it over one of my tops I already own. Which was all well and good, but while doing some shopping for my mother I saw a top in another store, nice plain blue one. Most of the tops I'd seen prior to this had motifs, or print or sequins or something all over them. So I bought the top as well, may as well have one "complete" decent outfit in my wardrobe to bring out when needed - as opposed to schellping about as a bag lady.

I see my mother tonight, and she tells me the friend who she was going to the function with has RSVP'ed and said she'll come on her own because my mother told her already she wasn't coming.
Now, if my mother was not an invalid I would have given into the urge to say "YOU MEAN I SPENT MY ALICE COOPER TICKET MONEY ON AN OUTFIT I DON'T REALLY NEED?"

I Don't Believe It!

I started the sixth Alien face today and what happens just after I complete half the face I run out of green wool, I still have some black left but not enough to complete the scarf so before I can finish it I'll have to buy more yarn.
It's a good thing Spotlight are having a sale on yarn then.

My mum come home from the hospital today and seems to be feeling much better. I can't say the same for the rest of us, i.e ME! She wanted a poached egg for dinner and in the process I burnt some of my fingers on the steam off of the boiling water. Ouch! But a quick dunk under some cold water and there much better.

Better enough for me to work on the only other knit project I have with me. My Voodoo wrist warmers. I'm hoping to get up to the thumb hole tonight and then decipher the button hole the pattern uses tomorrow.

I've been doing some reflection on my knitting career to-date. It'll be 2 years in July since I started knitting, and that was only squares!

Here I am now - Illusion knitting, knitting with beads, simple knitting in the round, simple lace knitting and the ordinary every day plain, purl and rib.
Next on the list to acheive - more advanced knitting in the round (maybe a sock or two?), more advanced lace knitting and some of that "picture" knitting. And of course cables! I have used a cable needle, in a bag I knitted - not actual for a cable but for it's clasp and I understand from canle patterns I would be something similar with the cable needle in those projects.

Guess what?

It's done! The fifth face of the Alien is done! All that's left is to start the sixth (and possibly) final face. Isn't life wonderful??

And today I discovered two wonderful sites today, the first is 2paw. A fellow Tasmanin knitter! After leaving a comment on my blog I had to go and read and read and read.........There are some very yummy receipes as well as lots of knit news.

The second is The Raging Grannies website. I love the name and I hope one day I get to be a raging granny!

We're all back up the hospital tonight to visit my mother again, aside from a giant bandage around her head she looked and seemed perfectly normal. All must be well then. I decided to take her a funny story I was e-mailed because I know it'll make her laugh.

Tonight after my visit I'll start the sixth face of the Alien and see how much I get done.

Well a lot has happened since I last wrote on Monday.

Yesterday was of course SNB meet-up day, someone from an unnamed other organisation told me they thought the name was offensive.
I'm still trying to decide wheather I should be outraged or more aware. I think I'll stick with outrage. These people haven't seen my cookie cutter collection yet.

I worked on the Alien yesterday, or attempted to. I didn't get a lot of knitting done at yesterday's meeting. However I sat down last night with it and managed to knit my way through to row 60 on the fifth face. It'll all soon be done, and that just leaves the sixth (and possibly final) face!

My mother went into hospital today for her operation, she has a recurring ear infection which left unattended could see her lose what hearing she has left. She's had hearing aids since she was very young. All has apparently gone well and we're (all the family) trapesing up to see her tonight.

This afternnoon I hit the gym again and made a bit more of an effort with my cardio - it's my least favourite bit. Wished I had more time to put more effort into my weight training - that is so my fave bit!
And upon discovering this news article, I thought I should share here as it's kinda topical.

A new issue!

Yes I am wildly excited because the new issue of the Southern Cross Knitting online magazine is up. Not bad for a first issue, everyone has to start somewhere.

I really love Lucy's Diamond Scarf, but it's knitted in 2-ply! Can you imagine me knitting 2-ply? Eeek! Not any time soon I don't think.

Today was my second trip to the gym to workout and my fourth visit in total to the place. I really like it, especially on the cardio equipment all the little quotes and sayings.
My fave:

Tommorrow is our next SNB meet-up, I'm looking forward to it. I kind of regret it only being once a month.
Ofcourse this means I will have to work on something, maybe I can work on it tonight so it's a bit more interesting tomorrow. Hmmm, what will I choose?

If I were a rich girl.

I'd hire someone to finish all my half done projects and all the boring stuff like ribbing on beanies.

However what I have bought, and it was cheap which was good. Is the new Get Creative magazine, there doing a focus on knitting, while there wern't a lot of patterns there was a lot of junk about how to and what you need.
Mainly I bought it because I really liked the Caressa poncho and the Trio - hat, scarf and mittens.

What I don't think I've told you about is the Panda Learn to Knit book I bought quite a few weeks ago. It's aimed at children and teaching them to knit, so some of it is probably way too simple and I should probably look to some more challenging stuff but some of the projects are very cool (I love the felted bags), they even have a couple of designs for knitted flowers to embellish your finished article with and the first project I'm planning to make from it is a child's beanie done on four needles.

I'm making Voodoo from Knitty which is my first project on four needles and they are wrist warmers, so I figure a child's hat would be a good next step up from that.
And I can send it away for Dulaan, so it won't really matter what colour (or possibly what shape it is).

If you are reading this I have been obvioulsy kidnapped by wild cavemen and am convincing them to help me take over the world as you are reading this.
They are impressed by my sharp pointy sticks and amazing rack.

Yesterday I finally got those last four rows done on the Alien's fourth face. I bet you we're all sick of those four rows, I know I was. It only took me a fortnight to get them done and then I made inroads into the fifth face and the process starts over!

Today was my first visit to the gym, I feel super fantastic now - but tomorrow morning may be another story. Which got me thinking with all this hard work I won't just be a red head with an amazing rack and a army of cavemen armed with sharp pointy sticks - I'll be a red hot red head with an amazing rack and an army of cavemen armed with sharp pointy sticks (they'll be my bodyguards once I'm red hot and having to beat men off with a big stick (a big pointy stick!)).

My other goals? Aside from finishing another 12 knitting projects so my yarn diet is over, I'm hoping to find enough cash to purchase myself a ticket to see the man himself, ALICE COOPER!!!!
Yes, he's coming to my hometown for one night only and it's the only concert in my state so I want to buy my ticket sooner than later. This is where not buying yarn should help. Hopefully.

I'm afraid that's all I have time for today, the cavemen are restless. Someone has to make their dinner.

Not much to report.

I haven't got anywhere near as much knitting done as I would've liked, instead I've spent a good amount of time vegetating and doing nothing.

I was just four rows off completing the fourth face on the Alien and do you think I have lloked at it since? No. The in the round project gets picked up and a few rows done on it before being put back down again..

I know, what a wildly exciting life I lead!

Something that is exciting, I got the first newletter from Lisa G in my In-Box the other day and have been over to admire the new site layout and check out her new blog. Just started so not a lot in there yet.
For those of you not familiar with Lisa G she started out making her own needles (with her father's help) and other knitting accessories because she wanted something funky as opposed to the normal boring stuff available. If you haven't seen her stuff now is a good time, because she's adding yarn to her range - it's only hand dyed and hand spun for the moment but commercial yarn will be coming. Lisa G's home is here.

I'm afriad that's it for today boys and girls, perhaps I should go and do seomthing more excting.

A quick one.

It's a long weekend due to Anzac Day - I really don't like Anzac Day I find it very depressing and hard to cope with. And consequentially don't watch a lot of tv because it's all Anzac Day.

Something good will come out of all of this, I wil hopefully be productive and get some knitting done. I bought some odds and ends of htick stuff yesterday as well as three cones of thick cream wool.

The odds and ends I thought would be good for knitting some more of the Dulaan hats, I must look that pattern up again because it was very quick and easy.

As for the cones of wool, you'll all have to wait and see!

Ahh it's been awhile.....

It has been awhile but first I want to start with the public shaming of some complete strangers.

No, I don't know these people but I do know that they drive a dark blue station wagon - one of the modern ones you know more rounded than straight lines.

I was in the car with my mother who was dirving me home at about quarter to four this afternoon (Thurs 21/4/05), when I said to my mother I can hear a siren. My mother's response is "Where is it?"
"I don't know, I can just hear it not see it" Like you can see a siren anyway, but you know what I mean I couldn't actullay see at first what it belonged to.
"It's an ambulance." says my mother. Now we were in the right lane coming across the bridge just past the Seaport, the ambulance was furthur back in the right lane so my mother pulls over to the left as the same time as the ambulance who'd obviously had the same idea as less traffic was travelling in the left lane at the time.

My mother moves back into the right lane, we're coming across the bridge, by this stage about halfway. Now I know I said there was less traffic and my mother moved back into the right lane, that dosen't mean the left lane is now devoid of traffic.

Oh noooooooooooo! Yes, I am referring to the dark blue station wagon. It's still in the left lane, with the ambulance - lights flashing and siren on - right behind it.
Acros the bridge, towards the traffic lights and the dark blue station wagon is just cruising along, I'm not sure of the name of that first street that runs down to Invermay Road but there's a petrol station on the corner.
The ambulance is still stuck behind this station wagon coming across the lights, after we've crossed the lights the ambulance has pulled in front of the line of traffic in the right lane where there was a gap. Now in front of the ambulance is one of these big truck-ute types it immedietly pulls into the left lane and the amubulance zooms off and we can see it in the distance turning down Foster Street where McDonalds is on the corner, the truck-ute pulls back into the right lane and throught all of this the dark blue station wagon is still driving along in the left lane at the same speed it was doing over the bridge in front of the ambulance. WTF?

Why am I so pissed about the dark blue station wagon? Because apart from being inconsideate to the ambulance crew and the people waiting for this ambulance by slowing it down, it's freakin dangerous to the people waiting. The person waiting may only have broken bones and a few seconds longer may not make a huge difference but the person waiting could also be having a heart attack, or have suffered some major injury that sees them bleeding everywhere, stuff like that every second does make a difference.

Starting right here, right now I don't know if these dark blue station wagon driving people will read this but I'd like all my fellow Launcestonians and Tasmanians for that matter to spread the word about these freaks, because Launceston isn't that small a place once you start talking to people.

Onto more positive topics, I had my first "session" at the gym Tuesday afternoon. Once I got over the temptation to say to "my" trainer just how old are you? He looked like he should still be in high school, but he was a nice guy and really seemed to know what he was on about so I'm less freaked.
Before I went I had this irrational and stupid fear that it would kill me, I knew it was stupid and irrational but still I was afraid. But i'm over that now, and I had a 10-minute session on the Versa Trainer - I think it's either a cross trainer or somehting similar to it. After 10 mins, I'd had it and my knees are like AAARRRRRGGGHHHHH!
But 30 seconds after all of this I'd become one of those happy perky people who irritate me beyond belief. I went to the supermarket after the gym and I'm happy and excited to be there in the supermarket. I'm just so excitied about being in the supermarket. They must be pumping something through the air conditioning at the gym.

My first project on the round is Voodoo (wrist warmers) from Knitty and is coming on really well I'm making it out of some Magnum Prints - the blue one.

I bought some more yarn at a ACWW (Associated Country Women of the World) fundraiser for the Tsunami victims. The money will go towards a project in one of the ACWW nations hit by the tsuanmi. It's all thick stuff, some of it I'm going to use for myself, some of the others I'm going to use for knitting for Dulaan. But I donated the equivelent spent on yarn to charity, I like when that happens. I am still making my monthly donations thorugh my yarn diet to MSF and The Wilderness Society. But every little helps.

Also on the news front and one of the reasons it's taken me so long to blog, Matt Hardy - yes my beloved Matt Hardy, has been fired by the WWE. I'm sad I won't be seeing him on my tv screen amy time soon but i'm not sad the WWE fired him because basicly there kinda crap on a good day. I'm hoping if he does go somewhere else like TNA we'll hopefully have it in Australia by then.

I bought a new bra and it's my first black one! In honour of Matt's many losses, and because you know in my dreams..........

Well, I think that's about it for the last week. I'll have to get back to more regualr posting now.

How Cool!

The new issue of Spun is up and I am very impressed with the Memories Capelet. I love the idea behind it and it reminds me of a knitter I know who knits all her scraps up!

I've also dug into the shallows of my stash and started a new project, and my first in the round. Tomorrow will tell if it works or if it gets flung across the room and stomped on. Damn knitting! Why don't you do what I want?

Yep, still new.

Monday is the release date of the new Spun I'm looking forward to it. I also got an e-mail about the Southern Cross Knitters and when the first issue will be up. I can't remember off hand. I'd look for the e-mail but that's more effort than I want to expend.

Nothing new on the knitting front.

However I did make Yorkshire puddings today, to go with the roast beef which I didn't eat. I can't stand the smell of beef roasting. But I love Yorkshire puddings! They came up absolutely massive and I did get a picture of them but it's in the camera so I'll have to get it and upload it. When I can be bothered. Hopefully soon. Also hopefully a picture of a finished product!

New! New! New!

Yes, today is all about new since that's what stopped me from getting yesterday's blog written.

The new Knitty is up and I am in love. There are a couple of things that are must make list worthy. Cleaves, I Do and Hot Tamale top the list but above them all is Cocktail Monkey!

I've been working on the Alien but failed to finish the fourth face last night as hoped. There's always tonight I suppose.

And a shameless plug for my other blog, Darkside Inn. It has lots of pretty pictures! It's basically about my obsession about food and my love of all manner of weird kitchen gadgets, There be lots of info, links and photos of both.

Opportunity Knocks Once, But How Many Times Does It Ring?

At least twice.

The last couple of months I have been contemplating going back to the gym, yes this was prompted when something failed to fit as good as it should.
That's all I've done, think about it.

The phone rang yesterday and it was Opportunity itself. They made me an offer I wasn't keen to refuse and so it was this afternoon I went for an appointment. And I signed my life away - to this very demon!
Fate obviously decided I needed a kick up the bum. I can't thank it enough. All I could think, well I couldn't really think, when they were showing me round was ahhh, home at last!

Was I apprehensive? Concerned about cost? Worried I might hate it? No - none of this bothered me. I was excited, yes excited. Fate kicked at the right time. I wasn't interested in details and fine print I wanted to join! And may I say I do believe they are slightly cheaper in price then my first time round with another well know name.

On the knitting front, I worked on the Alien today. The fourth face is half way and I hope to do some more toonight. The cold must be passing - or I'm still on a high from this afternoon.

On my way home as I was coming through traffic stopped at the lights was a Winabago. A couple we're in it the man was driving and the lady in the passenger seat was knitting!

A bit of housework, oh how I hate it!

Is it that time already?

Apparently it is. I have a SNB meet-up on Tuesday. I can't believe it's that time again already. Not that I'm not looking forward to it.

I will have to get to work on the Alien and finish the third face since I had hoped to have it done for the last meet.

It'll be the first knitting I've got done in about a week imbetween the cold and well the cold I haven't really got motivated to do anything.

However while I haven't knitted I have baked and if you want to see the results you'll have to visit the Inn. When not knitting and not having colds my other great passion is cooking. Or more to the point baking. I love baking most of all. Watch the Inn space because I have decided to turn the kitchen drawer out and do a photo homage to my cookie cutter collection. Yes, I collect cookie cutters so I'm always on the lookout for more, especially unique ones.
I've purchased some more just recently but they may have to be censored before going in the Inn.

Back to the knitting, once the third face is done I will take a photo to upload for you all to see or not see as the case may be. It is an Illusion Scarf after all!

We interrupt your normal blog reading to bring you this breaking news!

The unwelcome house pest was discovered alive and well in my hallway last night.

Yes, in my hallway. And I promptly informed my personal Spiderbusting crew by telephone of this fact. It's in the hallway, yes in the hallway. What do you mean what's in the hallway?

I so need to get a new Spiderbustering crew. My father was promptly dispatched to come around, he was out for his walk so he didn't have as far to come so you would've thought it wouldn't have taken long but it felt like an eternity.

So after this event I have decided that I really need to get a vacumn cleaner with a longer hose, more insect spray and I am going to try this outdoor barrier spray and see if it prevents them coming in.
I've also decided to take the plunge and buy one of these things that plug in the power point and emit sonar waves or something that drive all manner of creepy crawly things away. I do believe they are quite expensive to buy but the peace of mind will be worth it.

Not that I get big spiders very often, this is only the third the entire time I've lived where I am currently, that's about 5 years now I think. Touch wood there will be no more.
But just in case what do you think of this ad-in-progress?

Who You Gonna Call?

Last night after I've gotten into bed and was lying there, reading my book, everything's just fine. I decide it's time for lights out and at first I thought the curtain had moved. I decided I was imagining things and then realised the it wasn't the curtain but something on the curtain. It looked a biggin too. EWWWWWW! I do not cope well with 8-legged invaders.

I tried to be brave, I even left it alone in my bedroom when I fled to get the vacumn. Came back, plugged the vacumn in, and went to suck it up. The bugger only went and moved and I sucked up the curtain which then got stuck in the vacumn and the unwelcome invader made a run for it across the curtain and disappeared behind a chair which was in front of the window.
After that any resolve to be brave went out the window which is where I would have preferred the 8-legged invader to go.

So I'm having a panic attack ( a speciality of mine), blubbering and too afraid to go anywhere because it could come out and go somewhere else.

1. Matt Hardy unfortunatly by the time he got here from America the thing will have died of old age and I will be jibbering wreck beyond help and spend the rest of my days in a small room shouting about spiders.
2. Spiderbusters - Unfortunatly they don't exist, but I wish they would. If anybody is looking to go into business please start this one.
3. Dad. He came out in his pyjamas moved the furniture and looked all over the curtains back and front and decided he couldn't see a spider and he wasn't going to start looking for one now (it was midnight by this stage) and that I had better come home and he'd come back in the morning and look for it.

Well there was no sign this morning, my mother thinks it probably left sometime last night and my father thinks the same but just in case we have gassed my bedroom with insect spray. Nothing emerged in a mad attempt to get away from the fumes so it's either left or already dead. However despite this I am not sleeping in my room tonight, I'm camping out in my own living room if I'll sleep is another matter. My brave volunteers who think the spider is long gone will however come round in the morning to check for bodies alive and otherwise.

A.W.O.B.

Yes I was Absent Without Blog yesterday, but it was for a good cause. Yesterday I went to visit Cathy - my fellow SNB'ers will have met Cathy at the meet-ups and yesterday Cathy has joined the wonderful land of Blog!

The Knitter's Last Stand is Cathy's new blog. We should all watch with avid interest and in my case avid envy as Cathy can also crochet.

Since I was at Cathy's most of the night all I had time to do last night was crawl into bed. However I did work on the Alien this morning and he is closer to having a third face. I'm sure he'll be pleased.
I know I'll be pleased.

I'm still no closer to keep up with my SNB group or my e-mail, I've read all and most in that order. I still haven't got around to replying. I still have to finish checking in at everyone's blogs. Yes, I am reading I just haven't got around to commenting on a lot of your blogs. I will soon.

I'm back!

I haven't had a chance to catch up on all that has happened yet so I am just dropping a quick line to let you all know I'm back and plan to catch up on all the latest news and e-mails.

Sunday lunch went off alright in the end. I strongly suspected in the morning during preperation one or more of us would start channeling Gorden Ramsey. All of us ofcourse knew how Sunday lunch should be done right and camps were formed.

My responsibility for the lunch was the Sticky Garlic Potatoes - which turned out to be quite a success if I do say so myself. On Saturday afternoon, I made the Easter Nest Cake up in readiness for the lunch and made the choc-cream filling Sunday morning after the potatoes were done.

On the trip away I managed to knit half of the third Alien face, I got another quarter done Sunday afternoon before tea and never got back to it as I had a nap after tea. I've been confined with germy people and I am hoping with plenty of sleep, fluid and cold tablets I can beat it before it sets in.

On the trip back home today I did a few rows on the baby scarf, it must be nearly three-quarters done now. Once again I din't get alot done because I slept most of the trip back.

Well, that's all for today as I haven't had a chance to upload the pictures yet.

A Quick Update

Ah, I was meant to be away for the Easter weekend, I pictured myself incommunicado with at least three days to devote to my knitting with no distractions or excuses. Well the fact that I am writing this now means I obviously haven't got that yet. I'll be travelling tomorrow, baking the cake for Sunday's lunch when I reach my destination and then making my bed up and probaly spending the evening working on some knitting.

Sunday morning I will crawl from my bed and be thrilled to know I will be cooking a fraction less of Sunday lunch. Now that the numbers have increased everybody doubts the origianl menu.
My sister dosent' think we should be doing stuff for the first time on Sunday and my mother doubts everyone else will like the Saffron Roast Lamb.

Well I am still going to have my Sticky Garlic Potatoes, because I don't eat roast lamb or any roast meat for that matter so I will not be deprived of my potatoes!

Since I'm only cooking potatoes I figure that now gives me a bit more time Sunday morning to knit, and bugger them all I'll knit all Sunday after lunch as well.

I've got the baby scarf packed, mainly because it lives in my hand bag so I can get it out and actually work on it when i have spare moments - it's been worked on too! I'll have to carry something small round all the time. I've also packed the alien and hope to make progress on it's third face.

I think that's all, look for some photos after the weekwnd is over - it'll be Monday before I blog again.

Welcome to the Darkside Inn!

The place for fine wine, food and company!

Oh alright, the place for mostly chocolate cakes, anything with alcohol and possibly fine company. It'll be very fine company if Matt Hardy checks in.

At this stage it is very much under construction. The first posts will be after this weekend and will be the end results of my expedition into a kitchen. I have my pith helmet and machete at the ready, I am willing to take on all comers.

Sunday Lunch has gone from 4 to 6 to 10. Granted it's 8 and two small children - but that Easter Nest cake is just going to stretch. No leftovers or seconds. Sob sob!

I suppose since this is my knitting blog I should talk about it here and now. I worked on the baby scarf again - yes again! I might be hopefull but I think it has made it to the halfway mark or very close to it.

Oh I should probably tell you how to find the Inn, you'll find to the right at the top of the sidebar under the Darkside Hostess with the Mostess you'll see the option of visiting the Inn. A few links so far but that's it, I'm hoping to add more and lots of photos.
Probably they will mostly be me having a breakdown in the kitchen because there wasn't enough wine to sustain my culinary adventure.

I have been very remiss with my knitting today, I have done none. And I don't care. I might get some done tonight when I sit down to Crossing Jordan.

I am so not looking forward to work tomorrow it's meeting day, that's all I need umpteen dozen people yaffling at me all at once. Although having said that I know of at least three who won't be there so maybe there will be more?

We had a stall at the Franklin House Fair yesterday for my CWA branch, there seems to be the same five of us always running these things. I think we need a bigger branch I think there is at least ten of us. Not that you'd know it.

Ah it'll soon be time for Jordan I have to many things to organise, and dinally finish unpacking the shopping. I started. I also started a box of chocolates for Easter but I've stopped that now.

Another day, another row.

I've continued to work on the baby scarf today, I did another couple of rows. No, I'm not madly rushing to get it done.

I'm debating about an outfit to go with the new shoes, I'll have to start shopping around I see "Boho Chick" is still in, that could be just what I'm looking for - providing it comes in the right colours.
Nothing pastel, nothing pink, not "chocolate" or any other shade of brown for that matter.

I look at some of the stuff there selling in the stores and think who buys this stuff? Then I look at what people are wearing out and about and I know who, you wouldn't think there's be so many badly dressed people out there. Just because there selling it dosen't mean you should be wearing it.

Ah, at least I can always knit myself a cool cardy for winter. I kind of regret not keeping up with my sewing now, I could whip up a top and skirt and then eventually knit up a cardy to go with it.

I have been knitting.

I have I swear. I have a bus load of witnesses. I didn't knit this morning because I ran the risk of poking someone non stop - yes the bus was that full.

It's still been on the scarf in 8-ply. I'm hoping to do something more exciting once it's sone, ot equally captivating.

Maybe I might be brave and foray into a Bruce Lee knit - if you check out the Awesome SKull Chart link under Skull Selection (it's right at the top possibly before Pirate Lil?) the knitter has also designed a Bruce Lee chart and it is way cool looking.

Knitting!

Yes, I have actually done some today, I did none last night after all because I have been feeling a little off the last few days but I think that's done with now.

I knitted this morning working on the leftover scarf, and I worked on it again on the way home tonight on the bus.

Baywatch the Hawaii Reuninon turned out to have some of the guys in it after all, the case lied! Pamela Anderson was, well Pamela Anderson. She does have that unique style all of her own.

Tonight since i am feeling better I think we will have the Peanut Butter and Banana Sandwich - I am most looking forward to it.

Something else I am most looking forward to, Matt Hardy! Or more specifically Matt in his Hot Tub. Hmmmm, he should make a video In The Hot Tub with Matt an entire interveiw conducted from his Hot Tub.

Another day, another something.

Well it's happened once again. I am knitting some one else's leftovers. I have taken up a scarf for a baby to toddler? I think it is in some 8ply. The prospect of moss stitch, as nice as it is, just pissed me off too much like so many other things at the moment. I know with Easter coming up it's all fluffy bunnies and chocolate - you'd think I'd be in my element, but no.

Back to weird kitchen gadgets that I love so much. This one is special for Easter - a set of Easter Cookie Cutters. There's a chick, a duck, a rabbit, a lamb and an egg. There all in pretty pastel colours - yuck!
But I love them all the same, now I just have to find the time and motivation to make some. I'm planning on cooking or attempting to cook Easter lunch this year. Saffron Roast Lamb with Sticky Garlic Potatoes followed by the Easter Egg Nest Cake, thankyou Nigella! Check Feast by Nigella Lawson for all of these.

Not only does the cake look great but Nigella's description of how many it'll serve makes me even more enthusiastic about it - it'll serve 8 to 10 but I'll make it if there is just 4 of us quite frankly.

I'm also planning to try and make Hot Cross Buns. I blame Nigella she made such cute little ones and raved how easy it was. Nigella is the Devil!

Proof that Nigella is the Devil I am going to be making the Fried Toasted Peanut Butter and Banana Sandwich tonight, while I watch some trashy tv. Yes, it's supremely trashy. Baywatch - Hawaii Reunion I bought it today it was only $9.95 and a certain amount of trash is good for the soul. Although on closer inspection after purchase, I do believe none of the boys of Baywatch were able to come back......Only good old David seemed to be available to work with all the girls in bikinis which include Pamela Anderson and Carmen Electra (has anybody checked out her new fitness DVD's? I might out of sheer curiosity and also because a little trashy exercise might be good for more than just my soul).

Ah well, maybe I can knit during all of this, maybe not I might injure myself while rolling on the floor laughing.

Today is Sunday.

Today I made Friday Night Tunisian Meatballs from Nigella Lawson's book Feast.
And they were very yummy!

I know Friday Night Meatballs on a Sunday, but you get that and you move on.

I was hoping to follow with Chocolate raspberry Pavlova from Forever Summer, but I didn't get the pav made which was probably good because I don't think anybody had any room left for dessert.

Guess who's going to have to force themselves to gorge eat all those raspberries?

I'm goign to have to knit something I know, apart from Ken's Dulaan hat yesterday I haven't really been knitting anything of late. I've been thinking about it, I've also been thinking about Matt Hardy and Chocolate Raspberry Pavlova.

Thinking is not getting anything productive done, thinking will not get the Mongolians warm, so I should knit something. Anything, I need something new something different, something exciting!
Any suggestions?

I Knitted Something!

Well round of applause please!

I made Ken's Dulaan hat from Yarn Harlot's blog. Very simple and incredibly quick to knit up. Probably because it's three strands of yarn on 12mm needles and only a child's size. 11 rows to do the main part of the hat!

Do you know what this means? This is project..............7? I think it's 7 or is it 8? What was that purple and grey scarf I did? Oh hell this has been going to long. I can feel another donation to charity coming on, I have no green yarn with which to make the Knit Hand Grenade Purse.

I'm feeling slightly bag lady at the moment so I may continue with this theme (and donations) making The Last Straw Bag from Roxy Craft. It's knitted out of raffia, this could be interesting.

To hell with yarn diets and impovrished Mongolians - Matt Hardy dosen't look to be coming to Australia any time soon or if he is the WWE are keeping it under their hat. That's probably all their keeping under there.......But I digress to assuge my pain of not seeing Matt, the BAK Shoes think we should make a Hand Grenade Purse and something with Skulls in it...........

Oh that feels so much better - maybe I should knit Matt Hardy something? He apparently has no clothes, he seems to do everything naked. Or maybe I should knit a Matt Hardy? Hmmmmmmmm.

On that note I will end it for today, I must find a pattern to knit a Matt Hardy!

I know, I know, I've been very lax when it comes to knitting of late. I'm lacking inspiration but all that is about to change, after this pattern was brought to my attention.

The Alien does not have three faces.

I've failed the challenge of making sure the ALien has three faces by tomorrow's SNB meet-up. However I have recommenced work on the second mitten from the second pair of mittens in the Bendigo Rustic in the shade Columbine. 2 and a half rows so far and counting.
Tiny steps, tiny steps. A mitten today, an Alien's face tomorrow.

And to answer Sharon's question: Ebay the seller is Wicked Shoes and Boots (wickedshoesandboots). They have some fantastic stuff I can feel another purchase coming on.

Chocoholics Ahoy!

I want chocolate. And lots of it.

It helps me do my best thinking and knitting and movie watching. I bought Spiderman 2 today in the Video Ezy sale, they'd marked him down in price again.

I'm very excited, the only thing I like better than (or maybe equal to) Matt Hardy would have to be a superhero. My fave superhero is tied between Wolverine and Hellboy at the moment.
I do like bad boys - especially if they're going to bring me chocolate.

I did do some work on the Alien's third face yesterday. Hopefully I'll get a little more done while watching Spiderman tonight.

On the Dulaan front, our SNB group has accumulated a scarf, hat and two pairs of mittens. I do believe there is a second hat and pair of mittens in the making. We've done well, I'll have to get a picture of all our items together before we send it off.

I'm afraid that's it for today, hopefully the Alien will have a third face next time I write my blog post.

Good Intentions and all.

They say the road to hell is paved with good intentions. I think they may be right.

I intended to do some more work on the two-faced Alien last night while I gawped at Matt Hardy. Did I mention it's been quite some time since I've seen Matt Hardy?
I did far too much gawping and absolutley no knitting, however I got my tape measure out and thought about making Matt a sweater.
Six pictures down here should be about the right size, but I suspect my tv is not to scale.

I've found a fantastic new craft site I have fallen madly in love with and once again uttered the words if only I could crochet. RoxyCraft.com - where they have a crochet pattern for a flying pig.

While talking about sites the button formation continues, Amanda may have the answer I need.
Yes I do talk about Amanda a lot. It's a close competition between her and Matt Hardy.

Speaking of Matt Hardy, there's new meat on the market! It's still kinda unofficial official at this point, but Matt Hardy may be a free man. Referring to him as if he's a walking side of beef may be slightly cruel since he probably has a brain and feelings - but the Bad Ass Knitter Shoes don't care. They think he could be Rocky Horror to our Frank-N-Furter.
The BAK Shoes and I are hoping he's coming on the WWE Austrlian tour. Because the Shoes and I will be able to offer him a shoulder to cry on in this hour of our his need.

Enough about me (yes, and about the Shoes. See I mentioned you, now be quiet or I'll put you back in the Closet.) I really should be getting back to knitting as that two faced Alien needs to become a three faced Alien.

Then some.

My sister and fellow knitter has purchased some Opal yarn, I am mega jealous. How long before I buy some?

Now we have to figure out a pattern for her to make socks. Any suggestions?

On the Dulaan front, Yarn Harlot has updated her blog and included a pattern for a hat she is doing for it. Very cool, I may have to copy it down or better yet print it off.

Sharon has struck again, this time with a recipe for Violet Crumble Ice Cream Bars.

The Alien dosen't have a third face, yet. I'm going to work on it some more tonight and I hope to have a third face complete and a fourth at least started by the time I get to my SNB meet-up on Tuesday.

The Alien Has Two Faces.

Yes the Alien Illusion Scarf is now two faces complete with just four faces to go. I'm out of the wilderness and back on to my knitting. It's a wonderful feeling.

I was so busy having my mini Cher concert last night I missed the first episode in the new series The Medium.

I've also had the privelige to be tagged by Sharon I will answer that tomorrow I think it will have to be.

If only.

I am very green with envy as some aquaintances of mine are off to the Cher concert in Melbourne tonight.

So to make up for it, I have bought Cher: The Farewell Tour on DVD, I'll have to have my own little miny concert in my living room tonight.

I apart form the Caterpillar I haven't got any other knitting done, hmm, I may have to work on something else tonight. Like something for Dulaan. I should really finish that second mitten.

I know there still short, I promise as soon as I get back to my knitting there will be more to tell you about. However having said that I have found yet another Illusion Scarf I want to knit, this one has snowflakes.
